The atmosphere of this Sunday’s El Clásico was not all celebration for Barcelona. During the match that sealed the Spanish league title, Real Madrid forward Vini Jr. argued with fellow Brazilian Raphinha and, after being jeered by the crowd, responded to the Catalan fans with a provocation that instantly sparked controversy. Beyond the disagreement with Raphinha—which was resolved with a hug after the final whistle—the Real Madrid No. 7 made a point of reminding the crowd of the club’s history as he was booed, holding up his hands to form the number 15, symbolizing Real Madrid’s European titles. Despite the sparks during the 90 minutes, Vini Jr. showed sportsmanship by congratulating the Barcelona players and staff on their La Liga title while still on the pitch.
How Barcelona Won the Title
Barcelona secured the trophy with a 2-0 victory, built in the first half. Hansi Flick’s team gave their rivals no chance, opening the scoring in the 8th minute with a stunning free kick from Rashford. In the 17th minute, Dani Olmo backheeled a pass to Ferran Torres, who scored the second goal to seal the result.
Real Madrid tried to respond through Gonzalo García, who missed a clear chance in front of goal, but the team felt the weight of the internal crisis they have faced this season. In the second half, Barça simply managed possession and waited for the final whistle to lift their 29th Spanish league title, their third in the last four years.
