Zenit secured a 2-1 victory over Sochi in the 29th round of the Russian Premier League (RPL), moving to the top of the table.
The match in Saint Petersburg saw goals from Luis Enrique (59th minute) and Alexander Erokhin (84th minute) for the hosts, while Zakhar Fedorov scored for Sochi in the 31st minute.

Enrique missed a penalty for Zenit in the 13th minute. With this result, Zenit set a club record for penalties awarded in a single RPL season with 13, the second-highest total in league history after Rostov’s 15. Their previous best was 12 in the 2015/16 season. However, they missed five of those 13 spot-kicks, matching their own record for most misses in a season from 2020/21.
Zenit now have 65 points, one more than second-placed Krasnodar, who have a game in hand. Sochi remain in the relegation zone in 16th place with 21 points. If Dynamo Makhachkala avoid defeat against Akhmat Grozny later on Sunday, Sochi will be mathematically relegated early.
In the final round on May 17, Zenit will visit Rostov, while Sochi will host Akhmat Grozny.
